Mike Geric Construction Purchases High Profile Development Site in James Bay

July 13, 2021, Victoria, BC – Mike Geric Construction has purchased a 36,000 square foot (3,343 square metre) lot in James Bay that’s bordered by Quebec, Montreal and Kingston Streets. The high-profile site is currently a surface parking lot and is one of the few undeveloped properties in the historic James Bay neighbourhood.

“Our vision is to transform the site into a mixed-use development that will bring community amenities, housing diversity and public realm improvements to the neighbourhood,” said Edward Geric, president, Mike Geric Construction. “We have already begun conversations with our neighbours and the broader community to start developing a shared vision for a really forward-thinking development proposal that will add value to the area and benefit all of our neighbours.”

Geric has brought together D’Ambrosio Architecture + Urbanism and Murdoch DeGreef Landscape Architecture to begin creating a concept for a thoughtful and creative development that will become a long-lasting and valuable amenity for the community.

“This site is adjacent to a mature residential neighbourhood as well as one of the city’s most popular tourism districts, all within walking distance to downtown, James Bay Village, Fisherman’s Wharf and Beacon Hill Park,” said Geric. “It’s an idyllic piece of property and we’re very grateful to have the opportunity to bring forward a plan to create something special here.”

Mike Geric Construction is a local, family business that has been building homes throughout Greater Victoria for more than 50 years. The company is known for their leadership in adopting sustainable construction innovations and a commitment to housing diversity. They are currently building Victoria’s first mass timber condominium building, Tresah, which is located in Midtown across from Mayfair Shopping Centre. Our team was honoured to be recognized this past weekend with FIVE CARE Awards at the Victoria Residential Builders Association 2020 virtual event. Travino Gardens won Gold Awards for Best Innovative Feature, Environmental Achievement and Best Website. Mike Geric Construction also won the coveted Gold Award for Green Builder of the Year and special recognition award for Excellence in Creating Housing Affordability.

We’ve officially broken ground! On Tuesday November 17, 2020, Mike Geric Construction and the Tresah team were joined by Mayor Lisa Helps, the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce and many project supporters and partners for an official groundbreaking at Tresah.

Gold winners will be announced at 8:00 pm on Saturday, November 28 by CFAX host Al Ferraby during the
CARE Awards first virtual event on the Facebook pages of both CFAX and CTV Vancouver Island.

The public is asked to select the winner of the annual People’s Choice Award from among the Finalists displayed at Hillside Centre and online at careawards.ca from October 26 to November 28.
